Trainee Information
The following information is designed to provide you with the necessary information
that you need to know about Traineeships. This will include the people involved
and the expected timeframes that you will be working for in relation to your
training.
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
These have been agreed to with your employer and will be governed by the appropriate
award or enterprise agreement. The key issue is that a Traineeship does not
provide any guarantee except for training. Your employer is not guaranteeing
you a job and you are not guaranteeing to stay. The normal terms and conditions
of employment still apply. If you wish to leave then you must give your employer
the appropriate notice. If your employer wishes to terminate you then the employer
must follow the normal procedures as outlined in the award or enterprise agreement.
Who are MRP ?
MRP International Pty. Ltd. (MRP) is accredited with the Victorian State Government's
Office of Training and Tertiary Education (OTTE) as a Registered Training Organization.
This means that the qualifications we issue are recognized Nationally. The Trainees
qualification will be recognized by other RTO's such as T.A.F.E. Colleges and
Universities throughout Australia.
Once you have been enrolled with MRP one of our Trainers will make contact
with you and arrange a suitable time to meet with you and your Employer. This
first or initial visit is to identify the needs of the Trainee and develop the
required training plan and commence the training. The following visits are to
assess the progress of the Trainee and to set learning and assessment tasks
to be completed by the trainee on the job. You will be visited by the trainer
on a six (6) to eight (8) week cycle. The Trainer will also contact you and/or
the employer between visits by telephone .
Compliance with Legislation:
MRP International Pty. Ltd. Undertakes to ensure that it complies with all
relevant Federal and State Government requirements in relation to Training and
Assessing. In particular (but not limited to Workcover, VETACT, O.H.&S,
Equal Opportunity, Apprenticeships and Traineeships.
Both you and your employer may have legal obligations under the terms and conditions
of your traineeship. These are outlined on your training agreement and need
to be fully understood.
Flexibility of Learning:
MRP International understands that there needs to be flexibility in the learning
and assessing environment. To this end MRP is prepare to accommodate all reasonable
requests of Trainees and Employers in relation to the style and mode of training
and assessment. Each case will be determined on an as needs basis to ensure
the best outcome for all parties.
People With Whom You Will Have Contact:
Throughout your traineeship you will come into contact with a number of people
outside of your organisation. The most important of these will be you Trainer
who is available to assist you and to answer any questions you and your employer
may have in relation to the training. Other people you may come into contact
are people from MRP Head Office or people from the New Apprenticeship Centre
(NAC). All of these people are available during normal business hours on the
normal number for MRP or the NAC and can answer questions in relation to the
administration and operation of your traineeship.
The expected timetable of events is as follows:
- Our trainer will contact you as soon as your Training Agreement has been
approved by the NAC and your enrolment has been accepted by MRP. (Usually
within two (2) or three (3) weeks of our Rep and the NAC completing the sign-up.
- The first visit by the trainer will occur within two (2) weeks of this contact.
At this visit your Trainer and the Employer as well as your self will agree
to a specific Training Plan for your Traineeship. Our Trainers are very experienced
in their fields and will be able to advise you on the most appropriate electives
to include into your course. They will also issue you with the first set of
Assessment Tasks for you to commence and will organise the next scheduled
visit.
- The second visit will be an assessment visit. These types of visits will
occur on a six (6) to eight (8) weeks cycle after your first visit. Your trainer
will assess the modules previously left with you and issue you new modules
to work through. It is most important that you are ready for assessment by
the due date as if your Trainer arrives and you do not have any material to
be assessed then the Trainer will be upset as they are not paid for visits
where assessments do not occur. If you are unable to keep your appointment
or are not ready for assessment then it is your responsibility to inform your
Employer and notify the Trainer to re-schedule the visit. Continually postponing
the visits may lead to the cancellation of your enrolment with MRP.
- Subsequent visits will occur within the six (6) to eight (8) week cycle
until you have completed the required assessment tasks. This will take approximately
four (4) to Five (5) visits for a Certificate II and a further three (3) to
four (4) visits to complete the Certificate III. At each visit your Trainer
will assess your progress and continue your training.
- In between visits your trainer will contact you and/or your employer by
phone, fax or e-mail to offer support and to answer any questions either of
you may have in relation to your Traineeship.
It is important to remember that the assessment tasks you are set are not designed
to be difficult in any way. Our trainer will come to your workplace and go through
the tasks that you have been set to complete. You will be invited to discuss
the tasks and demonstrate the practical skills you have acquired. There is no
right or wrong answers and marks are not given. The only requirement is that
you can demonstrate that you have achieved the required competencies.
You must notify your trainer in plenty of time if you need to re-schedule an
appointment for any reason. Remember our Trainers work on contract and only
get paid when they collect the scheduled assessment sheets.
Another important issue to remember is that if you wish to discontinue your
traineeship for any reason you need to contact your Trainer or the MRP office
immediately. This is important s it enables us to finalize any details of your
traineeship for you. We may not be able to issue you with your certificate,
but we may be able to issue you with a Statement of Attainment for the work
you have satisfactorily completed. It also assist us to determine if any refunds
are applicable.
It is important to be aware that if you are going to another Employer that
you may be able to continue your Traineeship and that Employer may be eligible
for Government assistance. Please contact our office immediately and also get
your new Employer to contact us so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
Certification:
When you have completed all necessary competencies for your Traineeship, both
on and off the job, you will be awarded a Nationally Accredited Certificate
in your industry area.
MRP is accredited as a Registered Training Organisation and operates under
the National Quality Training Frameworks. As such it will issue Nationally Recognized
Certificate under the National Guidelines for the programs it is accredited
by Australian National Training Authority. These Certificates will be issued
within 14 days of receipt of notification of the completion of the required
coursework. All other Certificates for programs conducted by MRP will be processed
within 14 days from completion of the program.
